Art and Words

I’m a retired academic with a life-long passion for Art (from fabrics to precious metals) and Words (reading, writing, teaching). Hence, this fusion of Art & Words.

Personalize Your ArtWords

Inspire me! Instead of choosing a painting from the galleries, use your own words — together we’ll design a painting in the style and at the price that works for you.

The Painting

My first question about each new painting is: What does the meaning of these particular words suggest as to style and composition?

—Do the words line up in a few straight, justified rows?
—Do they form a more abstract cloud, hinting at movement?
—Should the colors be vibrant or muted?
—Sharply contrasting or blended?
—Sparse and spacious, or dense, covering the entire canvas?
—Do the words dominate, being cradled by the art?
—Or are they embedded, obscured, or at first sight even hidden?

The Words

ArtWords paintings may contain one word or a few hundred; poems or lyrics; sayings or mantras; literary fragments or quotations. Wander through the galleries and you’ll find Moby Dick next to Harry Potter; Robert Frost’s powerful Fire and Ice along with Beatles and Fiona Apple lyrics; the humorous quips of Mark Twain, Lily Tomlin, and Albert Einstein, fragments of Shakespeare and Emily Dickinson; and words of wisdom from Oscar Wilde and Winnie the Pooh.
